The Role
The Senior Category Manager manages the Automotive Parts & Accessories (P&A) category on behalf of enterprise clients on the RevolutionParts online retail platform. Their primary duties include analyzing market trends, identifying new product opportunities, setting pricing strategies, managing inventory levels, and collaborating with suppliers and vendors (if a 1P retailer) or Sellers (if a 3P marketplace) to ensure a diverse and competitive product assortment. Category Managers also work closely with marketing and merchandising teams to create promotional campaigns and optimize the online shopping experience for customers within their assigned category.
Additionally, they use data analysis and customer feedback to make informed decisions that drive sales and enhance the overall performance of their product category. In the context of RevolutionParts, the Senior Category Manager does all of the above as a trusted advisor to the enterprise clients who partner with RevolutionParts to build and grow their automotive parts eCommerce business. This role requires both the above technical and business skills as well as the consultative skills to ensure landing the eCommerce strategies with the client.
The best candidates have hands-on experience as a category manager/leader in an eCommerce business including:
- Business Planning: Experience building business goals and targets across key eCommerce metrics like revenue, gross margin, product mix, marketing mix and tracking actuals against these detailed plans for efficient business management.
- Market Analysis: Conduct comprehensive market research to understand current trends, customer preferences, and competitive scanning in the automotive landscape.
- Category & Assortment Strategy: Category planning and assortment management for a multi-brand business, including Identifying and introducing new products or product lines that align with consumer demands and company goals.
- Pricing Strategy: Experience designing and implementing effective pricing strategies to maximize profitability while remaining competitive.
- Inventory Management: Understands the importance of inventory management, especially in-stock levels, ensuring optimal stock availability and minimizing out-of-stock sales.
- Supplier and Vendor Collaboration: Build strong relationships with Brands and Distributors to secure the best assortment and manage in-stock availability.
- Merchandising Management: Experience building merchandising calendars that harmonize product demand with product availability and site placement, including promotional planning, sales, and events to drive sales/GMV growth.
- Digital Marketing collaboration: Experienced with digital marketing channels (SEM, SEO, email, Social, etc.) and collaborate with marketing teams to align category goals and sales targets to create impactful campaigns that target audiences tailored to the P&A category.
- Data-Driven Decision Making: Experience in data analysis tools to make informed decisions and track the performance with an ability to unpack the business and identify drivers.
- Customer Feedback Integration: Regularly review customer feedback and use insights to improve product offerings and customer experience.
- eCommerce Customer Journey: Experience in understanding the purchase journey of a P&A customer and collaborating closely with Site experience and product teams to enhance end-user experience.
Responsibilities:
- eCommerce Strategy Advisory: Act as a trusted advisor to clients, providing expert guidance to enhance their eCommerce strategies in the automotive parts industry.
- Market Analysis and Client Education: Conduct market research and educate clients on demand trends, customer preferences, and competitive practices in the P&A sector.
- Client-Centric Assortment Management: Assist clients in identifying new product opportunities and implementing effective pricing and inventory strategies.
- Collaborative Planning: Work with clients to develop tailored promotional campaigns and merchandising events to optimize their online sell-through and enhance customer engagement.
- Data Analysis and Performance Tracking: Employ data analytics to track client performance across key output (Sales, profits) and input (pageviews, conversions, AOV, etc.) metrics, offering insights and recommendations for improvement, tying actions taken to outcomes and course corrections needed to set the business on track to achieve revenue and profitability goals.
- Digital marketing & Site Experience: Work closely with digital marketing and site experience/product teams for customer targeting and conversions. Develop programs for new customer acquisition and retention.
- Client Relationship Management: Work with Partner Success Managers to establish and maintain strong relationships with clients, understand their unique needs and challenges, and flex our approaches to accommodate their dynamic needs.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Marketing, economics or a related field, with a strong preference for automotive industry knowledge
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in eCommerce category management, focusing on working in cross-team collaboration
- Solid proficiency in data analytics and performance management via data and insights
- Experienced in defining customer/user experience to maximize conversions and repeat behavior.
- Proficient in digital marketing, especially knowledge in multi-channel marketing, marketing mix optimization
- Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills
- Experience in automotive parts or a related industry is highly advantageous.
- Customer Orientation: Dedicated to understanding and meeting the needs of end customers & clients.
- Industry Expert: Possesses in-depth knowledge of eCommerce category management with full P&L ownership of the category
- Strategic Advisor: Capable of providing insightful, actionable advice to clients
- Collaborative Communicator: Skilled in working closely with diverse stakeholders, from the analyst to the C-Suite level
- Innovative Thinker: Brings fresh, practical ideas to enhance client eCommerce strategies
- Highly analytical: Leverages data and insights to drive meaningful outcomes
- Results-driven: Focused on achieving sales and performance targets
